New Hawaii Medical Marijuana Program Being Considered

A proposal for changes to the current Hawaii Medical Marijuana law will be voted on in a joint conference of both the House and the Senate this week. Concern over abuses of the Medical Marijuana Hawaii system has caused some legislators to look to amend the current regulations.

One aspect of the proposal is to establish a Medical Marijuana distribution center. The location of the distribution center is yet to be disclosed, but legislators claim it will be established in the region with the highest percentage of patients. While the ambiguity of the center's location causes some concern for legislators, advocates of the bill want to be sure they have accurate and valid statistics before stating a location.

The other aspect of the proposal is to limit the qualifying medical conditions acceptable for Medical Marijuana registration in Hawaii. Legislators supporting this proposal cite that a large number of current patients are young and have borderline ailments. Qualifying conditions would be limited to: HIV/AIDS, Glaucoma, Cancer, and Multiple Sclerosis.
