More Changes Coming to Colorado Medical Marijuana

The Colorado Board of Health is looking into tightening restrictions regarding the doctor-patient relationship, when recommending the use of medical marijuana. Colorado lawmakers began seeking a more legitimate doctor-patient relationship in 2010, in response to their fears of physicians recommending large quantities of people in a short time.

One aspect the Board of Health is considering is to restrict any Colorado Medical Marijuana application signed by a physician with negative marks on their medical license. In 2010, over 1300 Medical Marijuana applications were rejected due to physician licensing issues. The Colorado Medical Society, as well as physicians are opponents of this proposal due to the fact that license conditions do not always affect the physician's ability to prescribe medicine.

The proposal is aimed to prevent mobile physicians who travel around the state signing up patients. The proposal would require additional contact as well as more intensive physical examinations. Medical Marijuana Colorado supporters disapprove of these additional requirements due to additional costs incurred by patients, as well as the fact that no other medication would require such extensive examinations.
