Medical Marijuana supporters in Colorado get huge victory
In a surprise ruling the Colorado Board of Health voted 6-3 to not pass new regulations which would have restricted the number of patients a Caregiver can have to 5. The vote came after hours of testimony from patients, lawyers, and medical professionals who argued both sides.
There were about 500 people in attendance at the hearing almost all of which opposed the passing of the new regulations. Proponents of the new restrictions argued that the medical marijuana industry is growing out of control and lacks regulation. But in the end logic seemed to prevail in the ruling. With the total number of patients growing at upwards of 1000 people per month and over 7,000 patients already registered it seems a restriction of 5 patients per Caregiver would do more harm then good.
If a Caregiver could only supply 5 patients how could it be expected that they could provide a safe environment for their patients and a medical grade product. The simple economic of such a regulation would fail, there simply would not be enough money made from 5 patients to provide quality care. Imagine if the same logic was applied to physicians and they were only allowed to treat 5 patients.
