Kent, Washington Medical Marijuana Dispensaries May Be Shut Down

Four Washington Medical Marijuana dispensaries were hand delivered letters by local enforcement stating they are in violation of state law, and would need to immediately cease operations.

The four dispensaries operate within the city limits of Kent, Washington. In response, the dispensary owners and some of their patients packed the City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 7 to protest these actions.

Ambiguity over the law, and the recent federal pressure on closing Medical Marijuana facilities no doubt led the City of Kent to issue these demands. The city stated that while Washington Medical Marijuana law does permit the cultivation, possession, and use of cannabis by qualified residents, there is no clear definition allowing for dispensaries to operate.
