Increased Scrutiny Proposed for Colorado's Medical Marijuana

Officials in Colorado recently proposed greatly increasing the controls associated with Medical Marijuana purchases and sales. State officials want to keep digital records of all transactions of Colorado Medical Marijuana in order to curb illegal "black market" distributions.

Many in the Colorado Medical Marijuana community fear intrusion of the proposed "big brother" program. Officials want to go as far as requiring a digital scan of fingerprints before each sale from dispensary to patient and even keeping track of the Medical Marijuana with radio-frequency devices.

If any such program designed to monitor distribution is actual initiated, it will make Colorado the first state to institute such a program. The fear of state officials is that dispensaries and providers will allow for an increase in the "black market" of cannabis. In order to prevent the suspicions of increasing the "black market" supply, it seems officials are looking to start infringing on the rights of patients in Colorado. Many in the Colorado Medical Marijuana community believe this proposed system will infringe on patient privacy, a federally protected concept.

At this time, the proposal remains just that, a proposal. What actually comes about to monitor the legal distribution of Medical Marijuana is yet to be seem.
