Advocates Voices Remain Unheard in Nevada
Proponents of further legalization of the medical marijuana in Nevada seem to be fighting an uphill battle. Nevada Medical Marijuana law is one of the more stringent set of laws of the current group of states offering protection for those with medical need.
Protection from prosecution and imprisonment for those with a definite medical need, is the extent of the current Nevada Medical Marijuana law. And in the near future, those laws could become even more restrictive. Currently, individuals are allowed to possess and cultivate their own medication, but no literature is in place defining how those unable to grow may procure the medication. The new bill under review, if passed, would levy more severe penalties for cannabis possession for those not registered with the state.
Advocates feel that stricter penalties are a step in the opposite direction, and a contradiction to the wishes of the voters, who passed the medical marijuana law with 65% support back in 2001.
